Dear Alka,

I hope you and your family are well. I want to tell you about the ‘Cleanliness Week’ we celebrated in our village from 15th September to 22nd September.

Our school took the lead. On the first day the sarpanch inaugurated the drive and told us that cleanliness keeps us healthy and is next to godliness. Every morning we divided ourselves into groups. One group swept the school ground and the temple premises, another cleaned the pond, and a third went from house to house telling people to use the dustbin and not to spit on the roads and walls.

The best part was the tree plantation on the last day. Each of us planted a sapling on the road to the market and promised to water it every week. In the evening we held a small programme in which prizes were given to the cleanest houses of the village.

The whole village looked fresh and bright by the end of the week. Do write and tell me what your school did for cleanliness this year. Give my regards to uncle and aunt.
