Science exhibition draws crowds at New English School

Akola, 30th June : A two-day science exhibition, “Vigyan Utsav 2025”, organised by New English School, Hingna Road, was inaugurated on Saturday morning by the well-known scientist Dr A. P. Deshmukh of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.

The function began with a prayer and a welcome song. The Principal, Mrs S. K. Rao, welcomed the guests and explained that the exhibition was the result of three months of work by the students of classes VIII to X.

In his inaugural speech, Dr Deshmukh said that science is not a subject to be memorised but a habit of asking questions. “Every great invention began with a child asking why,” he said, and urged the students to experiment fearlessly and to accept failure as a step towards discovery. He also warned them against the blind use of technology without understanding it.

More than eighty models were displayed in the school hall. They included a working model of a solar water heater, a rain-water harvesting system, a low-cost water filter, an automatic street-light and a model showing the working of the human heart. The stall on waste management, which showed how kitchen waste can be turned into compost, attracted the largest crowd.

On the second day, prizes were distributed by the chief guest. The first prize went to Sneha Kulkarni of Class X for her solar water heater, the second to a group of Class IX students for the water filter, and the third to Rahul Deshpande for his model of the heart. Consolation prizes were given to ten other participants.

The exhibition was open to parents and to students of nearby schools, and more than two thousand visitors are said to have seen it. The Principal announced that the best models would be sent to the district-level science fair next month.
