Answer: (a) The paddy crop will be damaged more because the number of grasshoppers will increase. (b) The number of grasshoppers and of snakes will change — grasshoppers will increase and snakes will decrease.

(a) Frogs eat grasshoppers. If frogs decrease, grasshoppers are not controlled and their number rises, so they eat more of the paddy leaves and the crop is damaged and the yield falls.

(b) As grasshoppers increase they destroy the crop, and the snakes, which feed on frogs, get less food, so their number will decrease. Thus the whole food chain grass → grasshopper → frog → snake is disturbed.
