Composites combine high strength and stiffness with low weight and good corrosion resistance. Their main applications are:
- Aerospace: CFRP and GFRP for aircraft wings, fuselage, tail fins, helicopter rotor blades, satellite structures; sandwich panels for floors.
- Automobiles: body panels, bumpers, drive shafts, brake pads, leaf springs; CFRP chassis of racing cars. Lighter vehicles save fuel.
- Marine: GFRP boat hulls, decks, ship structures, which resist corrosion.
- Construction: reinforced cement concrete (RCC), FRP bars, bridges, roofing sheets, doors, window frames.
- Electrical and electronics: PCB laminates (glass–epoxy), insulators, switchgear housings.
- Sports goods: tennis rackets, golf clubs, bicycle frames, fishing rods, skis.
- Chemical industry: corrosion-resistant pipes, tanks and ducts.
- Others: wind-turbine blades, medical implants and prosthetics, bullet-proof vests (Kevlar), cutting tools (cermets), tyres (carbon black in rubber).
