Number of scholarships

Each of LIC's 112 divisions selects 120 students: 80 General Scholarships (40 boys, 40 girls) and 40 Special Scholarships (20 boys, 20 girls). Gender slots can be swapped if one side has too few applicants. The overall caps are 8,960 General and 4,480 Special scholarships.

Selection

There is no exam. Applications are routed to an LIC division by the PIN code of your address, and each division ranks applicants by their Class 12 or Class 10 percentage. Ties go to the applicant with lower family income. Selected students are told by email, and LIC officials then verify original documents.

Documents

  • Income certificate from a competent revenue authority (Tehsildar, Collector, SDM, municipal or panchayat officer etc.) showing both parents' gross income for the previous financial year.
  • Class 10 or 12 marksheet and proof of admission.
  • Bank account details with IFSC and a cancelled cheque in the student's name.
  • PAN and e-Aadhaar details are used in the application.

How to apply

  1. Watch the LIC home page (licindia.in) and the Golden Jubilee Foundation page for the 2027 scheme document.
  2. Apply only through the online link on the LIC website; paper forms are not accepted.
  3. Note the LIC division named in your acknowledgement email; it handles all further correspondence.

Renewal

Medical and engineering scholars must score at least 55% each year; others need 50%. You must pass every subject; passing with grace marks or clearing a failed subject later ends the scholarship.

Tips for Maharashtra students

  • Maharashtra is served by several LIC divisions, and you compete only against applicants in your own division, which is decided by your PIN code.
  • You can hold a Maharashtra government scholarship (for example through MahaDBT) together with the LIC scholarship, because government scholarships are exempt from the "other scholarship" bar.
