Notified institutions can include IIMs, IITs, IIITs, AIIMS, NITs, NIFTs, NIDs, Institutes of Hotel Management and National Law Universities. Other institutions qualify through NAAC A++ or A+ accreditation, a top-100 NIRF rank, or Institution of National Importance status, if recommended by the selection committee.
  • Scholarships are limited to the slots allotted to each institution. If there are more eligible students than slots, the top students in the institution's merit list (by entrance exam rank) get them.

Maharashtra examples in the guidelines include ILS Pune (MHT-CET rank), Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SNAP), Symbiosis Law College (SLAT) and Bharati Vidyapeeth (B-MAT). Top Class Education in Schools (Classes 9-12)

A separate PM YASASVI component funds OBC, EBC and DNT students already studying in notified Top Class Schools, with household income below ₹2.5 lakh. It covers tuition, hostel and other school charges, up to ₹75,000 a year in Classes 9-10 and ₹1,25,000 a year in Classes 11-12. Selection is by a state-wise merit list on the previous class's final exam marks, with at least 30% for girls. For 2026-27, NSP opened fresh applications on 22 October 2026, with a last date of 30 November 2026. Students from Rajasthan, Kerala and Karnataka were asked to wait. NSP has published lists of eligible Class X and Class XII institutions.

Tips for Maharashtra students

  • OBC, EBC or DNT students who do not get a Top Class slot at their institute can still apply for Maharashtra's post-matric scholarship on MahaDBT 2.0 if they are eligible. The scheme guidelines point students to the post-matric scheme in this case.
  • SC students at top institutions have a separate NSP scheme, Top Class Education for SC Students, with a 31 October 2026 last date. Under its guidelines, the income limit is ₹8 lakh.
