Maharashtra's school scholarship exam is now held for Class 4 and Class 7 students instead of Class 5 and Class 8. The exam is conducted by the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE), Pune, and the scholarship is ₹5,000 a year for Class 4 and ₹7,500 a year for Class 7, for three years. As of 24 October 2026, MSCE has not announced the 2026-27 application dates or the 2027 exam date; going by the first Class 4 and Class 7 exam, held on 26 April 2026, the 2027 exam is expected around April 2027, but this is an estimate.
What changed
All India Radio reported on 18 October 2025 that the state government had approved moving the school-level scholarship exams from Class 5 and Class 8 to Class 4 and Class 7, starting from the next academic year. The revised amounts are ₹500 a month (₹5,000 a year) for Class 4 and ₹750 a month (₹7,500 a year) for Class 7, each for three years. MSCE's website now links to a separate "Scholarship exam, Class 4 and Class 7" portal next to the older Class 5 and Class 8 portal.
In 2025-26, the year of the change, both exams were held. The Class 4 (Primary Scholarship) and Class 7 (Upper Primary Scholarship) exam took place on 26 April 2026, as reported by Navbharat Live. MSCE has not yet published a notice for the 2026-27 cycle, so check mscepune.in before planning.

Tips for Maharashtra students
- Students who are now in Class 5 or Class 8 should ask their school whether any Class 5 or Class 8 exam will be held in 2027. The government's plan was to hold the exam only for Class 4 and Class 7 after the transition year.
- Parents of Class 3 and Class 6 students should note that their children will become eligible next year.
- Ignore exam dates on social media until they appear on mscepune.in.
