Dear Nitu,

Hope you are well. Yesterday our school celebrated Dr. Abdul Kalam’s birth anniversary as ‘Reading Inspiration Day’. We had a book exhibition and a reading marathon, and it made me think of you, because I know you spend most of your free time on the mobile phone.

Reading is one of the best habits we can develop. Books increase our knowledge and vocabulary, improve our concentration and help us write and speak better. Stories take us to new places and teach us about people and life, while biographies like Dr. Kalam’s ‘Wings of Fire’ inspire us to dream big. Reading also relaxes the mind and keeps us away from boredom.

Start with just twenty minutes a day with a book you enjoy, and join your school library. I am sending you a copy of ‘Wings of Fire’ – do tell me how you like it.

Convey my regards to uncle and aunty.

Your loving cousin,
Pooja
