Dengue fever claims 10 lives in Dhule
By our Staff Reporter
Dhule, 12th September: Ten people, including four children, have died of dengue in Dhule district in the last three weeks. More than 250 suspected cases have been reported, and the civil hospital and private clinics are overcrowded with patients suffering from high fever, body ache and a falling platelet count.
Health officials said that stagnant rainwater, blocked gutters and open water tanks have become breeding grounds for the Aedes mosquito. The Municipal Corporation has started fogging and spraying in the worst-affected wards, and health workers are conducting door-to-door surveys.
The District Health Officer has appealed to citizens not to store water in open containers, to empty coolers and flower pots every week, to use mosquito nets and repellents, and to consult a doctor immediately in case of fever instead of taking medicines on their own.
