A Helping Hand in the Rain
It was raining heavily and I was going to my tuition class on my bicycle. The roads were flooded, and I was pedalling slowly, trying to avoid the potholes. Near the old bus stop, I saw an elderly man struggling in knee-deep water with a heavy bag of vegetables. His umbrella had blown inside out, and he looked frightened.
I got down from my bicycle and asked if I could help. He said he lived nearby but could not see the edge of the road under the water. I put his bag on my carrier, held his hand and walked him slowly to his building, guiding him around the open drain.
When we reached, his granddaughter came running out and thanked me again and again. The old man blessed me and insisted that I have a cup of hot tea before leaving. I reached my class late and completely drenched, but when I told my teacher what had happened, she praised me in front of everyone.
That day I learnt that a small act of kindness can make a big difference to someone, and the warm feeling it gave me is something I still remember.
