Anant was a fifteen-year-old boy from Gaganpur. Once healthy and active, he was the best table-tennis player and the fastest runner in his school. He was learning the sitar and was so talented that he composed his own tunes, to his guru’s astonishment. Then he was struck by cancer and was brought to Bombay for treatment, but his condition grew worse; he needed oxygen and could hardly sit up. His intense desire was to hear and see Pandit Ravi Shankar, which he called the chance of a lifetime. His sister Smita boldly requested the maestro, and the next morning Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Allah Rakha came to Aunt Sushila’s apartment and played for him. Surrounded by their music and great happiness, Anant passed away gently.
