Q.6 (A) (i) The true discount on a sum is \(\frac{3}{8}\) of the sum due at 12% p.a. Find the period of the bill.
Best answer
Answer: 5 years
Let the sum due be \(A\). Then T.D. \(=\frac{3}{8}A\) and present worth P.W. \(=A-\frac{3}{8}A=\frac{5}{8}A\).
T.D. is the simple interest on P.W.: \(\frac{3}{8}A=\frac{5}{8}A\times\frac{12\times n}{100}\)
\(3=5\times 0.12n=0.6n\Rightarrow n=5\)
The period of the bill is 5 years.
