Used to protect domestic appliances, fuse wire has specific melting point and is made of a mixture of substances. It is connected in series to the electric appliances. When the current in the circuit increases excessively, then the fuse wire is heated up and melts, breaking the circuit and stopping the flow of current, thus protecting the appliance.
