If you are in Class 11 or Class 12 now and aiming for NEET 2027, the first question is simple: which syllabus should you study from? This article gives you the honest answer, the full unit list for Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and a way to turn the syllabus into a working study checklist.

Is the NEET 2027 syllabus out?

No. As of now, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has not released a NEET (UG) 2027 syllabus. The latest official document is the NEET (UG) 2026 syllabus, released by NMC through a public notice dated 22 December 2025 and published by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on its NEET website in January 2026.

Two facts make this useful for 2027 aspirants:

  • The 2026 syllabus text is the same as the 2025 syllabus. We compared the two official PDFs word by word, and the only difference is the year printed on them.
  • The big change happened earlier, when NMC revised and reduced the syllabus for NEET 2024. Since then the content has stayed stable.

Last year, the syllabus notice came out in late December, so the 2027 syllabus may appear around the end of 2026 or early 2027. That is an expectation, not an announcement. Until NMC publishes it, the 2026 syllabus is the best guide you have, and we will update this page when the new notice is out.

How the official syllabus is organised

The NEET (UG) syllabus has 20 units in Physics, 20 units in Chemistry and 10 units in Biology. Each unit maps to one or more NCERT chapters from Classes 11 and 12. The exam itself has three subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany and Zoology), with 180 questions in the current pattern, +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one. Always confirm the pattern for your year in the official information bulletin on neet.nta.nic.in.

19Electronic Devices12Semiconductor Electronics: Materials, Devices and Simple Circuits
20Experimental Skills12Laboratory Manual Physics (Class 11 and 12)

Unit 20, Experimental Skills, is newer. It lists experiments such as the vernier calipers, screw gauge, simple pendulum, metre bridge, focal length by parallax, the prism, the travelling microscope, and diode and Zener characteristic curves. In our tagging of 2,060 past questions, only 6 questions fall into this unit, but it is official, so do not skip the lab manual.

Chemistry: 20 units

No.UnitClassNCERT chapters it covers
1Some Basic Concepts in Chemistry11Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry
2Atomic Structure11Structure of Atom
3Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure11Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure
4Chemical Thermodynamics11Thermodynamics
5Solutions12Solutions
6Equilibrium11Equilibrium
7Redox Reactions and Electrochemistry12Redox Reactions; Electrochemistry
8Chemical Kinetics12Chemical Kinetics
9Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties11Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties
10p-Block Elements12The p-Block Elements
11d- and f-Block Elements12The d- and f-Block Elements

18Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen12Amines
19Biomolecules12Biomolecules
20Principles Related to Practical Chemistry12Laboratory Manual Chemistry (Class 11 and 12)

Two Chemistry units are worth a second look. Unit 13, Purification and Characterisation of Organic Compounds, covers chromatography, detection of elements and quantitative estimation. Unit 20, Principles Related to Practical Chemistry, covers functional group tests, preparations such as Mohr's salt and acetanilide, KMnO4 titrations and salt analysis. The p-Block unit is now limited to general trends of Groups 13 to 18; most specific compounds were dropped in the revision.

Biology: 10 units

No.UnitClassNCERT chapters it covers
1Diversity in Living World11The Living World; Biological Classification; Plant Kingdom; Animal Kingdom
2Structural Organisation in Animals and Plants11Morphology of Flowering Plants; Anatomy of Flowering Plants; Structural Organisation in Animals
3Cell Structure and Function11Cell: The Unit of Life; Biomolecules; Cell Cycle and Cell Division
4Plant Physiology11Photosynthesis in Higher Plants; Respiration in Plants; Plant Growth and Development

The official syllabus lists Biology as one subject with 10 units. On Doubtly we split each unit into Botany and Zoology parts so you can track them the way the paper is sectioned, but the unit numbers above are the official ones.

What to expect for NEET 2027

Nobody outside NMC knows what the 2027 notice will say, so plan with care:

  • Base case: study the 2026 syllabus in full. It has been unchanged across 2025 and 2026.
  • If a change is announced: it will come as an NMC notice and an NTA upload. Rely on those two sources only, not on forwarded messages or screenshots.
  • Keep NCERT as the scope. The syllabus text is short. When a sub-point is not named but sits inside a retained NCERT chapter, treat it as in syllabus.

How to use the syllabus well

  1. Turn units into a checklist. Write every unit and its topics in one place and mark each as not started, read once, practised, revised. Our NEET syllabus tracker already has all 50 units and their topics, so you can tick them off as you go.
  2. Use weightage to order, not to skip. Past papers show which units carry more questions. Human Physiology, Genetics and Evolution, and Cell Structure and Function lead Biology in our data, but every unit appears in past papers.
  3. Practise by unit. After finishing a unit, solve past questions from that unit only. You can build a unit-wise test from official papers in our topic-wise test builder.
  4. Filter out removed topics. Papers from 2023 and earlier include questions on topics no longer in the syllabus. Skip those or treat them as optional reading.
  5. Read the official papers. The full list of past papers is on our NEET previous year papers page.
