NEET Chapter-wise Weightage (2016–2025) from 2,060 Official Questions
On this page
Which NEET chapters bring the most questions? Instead of guessing, we counted. We took 11 official NEET (UG) papers from 2016 to 2025 and tagged every one of their 2,060 questions to a unit and topic of the official NMC syllabus. This page shows the results subject by subject, and what they mean for your study plan.
How we built this data
- Papers: NEET 2016 phase 1, NEET 2016 phase 2, and NEET 2017 to 2025, one official question paper per exam, checked against the official answer key.
- Question count: the 2016–2020 and 2025 papers had 180 questions. The 2021–2024 papers had 200 questions, of which candidates attempted 180, so they add a few extra questions per subject. That gives 7 × 180 + 4 × 200 = 2,060 questions.
- Tagging: each question was tagged to one unit and one topic of the official NEET (UG) 2026 syllabus. Older questions on removed topics were placed in the closest current unit and also flagged as out of syllabus.
- What the numbers mean: these are counts of questions, not marks. Every NEET question carries the same marks, so more questions means more marks at stake, but a single paper can vary.
The column "2021–2025" shows the last five papers only, which reflect the current pattern and syllabus better than older years.

p-Block Elements has the highest ten-year total (47), but much of that comes from older papers, when the unit included specific compounds that are now out of the syllabus. In the last five papers it has only 16 questions. Organic Compounds Containing Oxygen (23) and Chemical Bonding (22) lead the recent papers.

A note on the split: the official syllabus treats Biology as one subject with 10 units. We file shared areas such as cell biology and molecular genetics under Botany, so our Botany and Zoology totals will not match the section sizes printed on the paper. Taken together, Biology accounts for 1,030 of the 2,060 questions, exactly half.
Human Physiology is the single largest unit in our data (128 questions). In the last five papers, Cell Structure and Function (63) and Genetics and Evolution in Botany (59) are ahead of it (51).

18 of these 20 topics are from Biology. Together they account for 478 questions across the 11 papers. Topic counts are spread thinner in Physics and Chemistry, where one unit has many small topics, so the absence of a Physics topic here does not mean Physics is easy to score.
What this means for your planning
- Do the heavy Biology units first and well. Human Physiology, Genetics and Evolution (both parts), Cell Structure and Function, and Ecology together carry 495 questions in our data.
- In Physics, Class 12 electricity and optics come first. Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetism, EMI and AC, and Optics appear in every paper.
- Do not skip small units. Even the lowest units, such as Experimental Skills and Purification of Organic Compounds, show up. Small units are often quick to finish.
- Look at recent years more than totals. The p-Block example shows that a high ten-year total can hide a falling trend after the syllabus revision.
- Practise by unit, then by full paper. Use our topic-wise test builder to practise past questions from one unit, and the full previous year papers for timed mocks. Track progress unit by unit in the syllabus tracker.
