Reproductive health is maintained by personal hygiene, awareness and safe behaviour.
- Keep the genitals clean every day; women should take special care of hygiene and use clean sanitary pads, changed regularly, during menstruation.
- Take rest and nutritious food during menstruation, since heavy bleeding causes weakness.
- Avoid unsafe sexual contact and use protection, to prevent sexually transmitted diseases such as syphilis, gonorrhoea and AIDS.
- Consult a doctor promptly for any infection, irregular menstrual cycle or unusual symptom; do not hide such problems out of shyness.
- Get correct information about reproductive health from teachers, doctors and health centres rather than from myths.
- Follow the legal age of marriage and use family planning methods to space children.
