The Atlantic Charter was a joint declaration signed by US President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in August 1941, aboard a warship in the Atlantic Ocean.
It declared that the two countries sought no territorial gains and that every nation had the right to choose its own form of government.
It supported economic co-operation, freedom from fear and want, freedom of the seas and disarmament.
Its principles formed the basis of the United Nations Organisation established in 1945.
