Importance of satellites as means of communication.

Answer: Satellites have made communication fast, wide and reliable.

• Communication satellites (e.g. India's INSAT and GSAT series) relay signals over very large areas, including remote and hilly regions.
• They are used for telephone, mobile, internet, radio and television broadcasting.
• Weather forecasting, cyclone warnings and disaster management depend on satellite data.
• They are used in navigation (GPS / NavIC), defence, remote sensing, mapping and resource survey.
• They support distance education, telemedicine, online banking and e-commerce, and have helped globalisation by connecting the world.
