Time Study

Answer: Time study is the technique of scientific management by which the standard time required to complete a job is fixed by observing and recording the time taken for each element of the work.

It was suggested by F. W. Taylor. An efficient worker is observed with a stop watch while doing the job; the time for each movement is recorded and, after allowing for rest and unavoidable delays, a standard time is fixed.

• It helps to fix a fair day’s work for each worker.
• It helps in deciding the number of workers needed and in fixing wage rates and incentives.
• It reduces waste of time and increases efficiency.
