What the Probability chapter test covers

This short test checks Chapter 5 of the Class 10 Algebra syllabus. It begins with the ideas behind probability: the probability of a sure event, which values can never be a probability, and P(A') = 1 - P(A). The rest are counting problems with a clear sample space: tossing two and three coins, throwing one die and two dice (sum equal to 7), drawing a king from a pack of 52 cards, picking a prime from cards numbered 1 to 25, and forming two-digit numbers from the digits 2, 3 and 5 without repetition.

Format

  • 10 multiple-choice questions
  • 1 mark each, 10 marks in total
  • 15 minutes
  • One correct answer per question; no marks are deducted for wrong answers

How to approach it

Attempt it after you can write sample spaces quickly. For every question, write n(S) and n(A) before choosing an option; the board also gives marks for these steps in written answers. Then go through the explanations, which list the sample points in full. If the two-dice or three-coin questions trip you up, list those sample spaces again and redo the test after a day or two.

The SSC Algebra page has more probability questions with solutions, and the Maharashtra SSC exam page lists every test for Class 10.
