On my way back from school, I found a wallet lying on the road near the bus stop. I picked it up and looked inside. There were some notes, a few cards and a small photograph of an old couple. For a moment I thought of the new cricket bat I wanted, but I quickly pushed the thought away.

In one corner of the wallet I found a visiting card with an address in our area. I went straight home and told my father. He was pleased and came with me to the address. An old man opened the door. When he saw the wallet, his eyes filled with tears.

“This is my pension for the whole month,” he said. “I have been searching for it all afternoon.” He counted the money; not a single rupee was missing. He blessed me and offered me a reward, but I politely refused.

The next week our headmaster called me to the stage in the assembly. The old man had written a letter to the school praising my honesty. That day I learnt that honesty brings a joy that no money can buy.
