Answer: A review of about 150 words covering all the points, ending with a rating and recommendation.

Film Review : ‘Swades’

‘Swades’ (2004) is a heart-touching Hindi film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, with music by A. R. Rahman.

Theme / Storyline : Mohan Bhargava, an Indian scientist working at NASA, returns to India to take his childhood nanny, Kaveri Amma, back with him to America. In her village he sees poverty, caste prejudice and lack of electricity. Moved by the villagers’ problems, he builds a small hydro-electric plant with their help and finally decides to stay in India.

Characters / Actors : Shah Rukh Khan gives a natural, restrained performance as Mohan. Gayatri Joshi as Geeta, the strong-minded teacher, and Kishori Ballal as Kaveri Amma are equally convincing.

Other points : Rahman’s songs like ‘Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera’ are soulful, and the rural scenes are beautifully shot. The film is a little slow, but its message of love for one’s country and self-reliance is powerful.

Rating : 4 / 5 — a must-watch for every young Indian.
