Dear Sameer,

I hope you and your family are well. You will be glad to know that our family has joined the ‘Save Electricity–Save the Planet’ campaign of our school, and our electricity bill has already come down by nearly a third.

We have replaced all our old bulbs with LED bulbs and we switch off every light and fan when we leave a room. My mother now dries the clothes in the sun instead of using the dryer, and my father gets the fridge, the cooler and the water pump serviced regularly so that they do not waste power. We have also bought a small solar lamp for the study table and a solar water heater for the bathroom.

The best part is our weekly home energy audit every Sunday. My sister notes down the meter reading and we all try to use fewer units than the week before. Whoever saves the most units gets to choose the Sunday sweet!
