Counterview on ‘Artificial Intelligence is a blessing to Humanity’
I do not fully agree that artificial intelligence is an unmixed blessing to humanity. It is true that AI saves time and is easily available, and that it can help a designer or a scientist try out hundreds of ideas in a minute. But speed is not wisdom. A machine that writes our essays and solves our sums for us slowly takes away our own thinking, and a generation that never struggles with a problem never learns to solve one.
Nor does AI really enhance creativity; it only re-arranges what human beings have already created, and it can never feel joy, grief or wonder — the true sources of art. Its easy availability has brought a flood of fake photographs, fake voices and fake news that we can no longer tell from the truth, and it threatens the jobs of clerks, drivers and even artists.
It is also false to say that AI has made life easy. The same technology that improves communication also traps young people in screens, shortens their attention and weakens real, face-to-face friendship.
AI is a powerful tool, but a tool is a blessing only in wise hands. We must use it under human control, with strict rules and a clear conscience, or it will become a curse.
