‘Service to man is service to God’ means that the truest worship is not a ritual but an act of kindness. God is not to be found only in temples and mosques; He lives in the hungry child, the sick old man and the tired labourer. A doctor who treats a poor patient free of charge, a student who teaches slum children, a neighbour who carries water to a sick woman — all of them are praying with their hands. Such service needs no priest and no offering, only a heart that feels another’s pain. When we serve a human being, we serve the image of God in him.
