Film Review : ‘Taare Zameen Par’

‘Taare Zameen Par’ is a heart-touching Hindi film on the subject of dyslexia and the way children are judged only by marks. The story is about Ishaan, an eight-year-old boy who struggles with reading and writing and is sent to a boarding school. There, an art teacher, Ram Shankar Nikumbh, understands his problem, helps him and brings out his talent for painting.

The film is produced and directed by Aamir Khan, who also plays the teacher. Darsheel Safary gives a natural and moving performance as Ishaan. The cinematography captures the colourful imagination of a child beautifully, with animated sequences. The music by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, especially the song ‘Maa’, touches every heart. The presentation is simple, sensitive and realistic.

In my view, the film is a must-watch for every parent, teacher and student, as it teaches that every child is special. I rate it 5 out of 5 and strongly recommend it.
