What this Linear Equations in Two Variables test checks
This chapter test covers Chapter 1 of the Class 10 Algebra (Mathematics Part I) book. The questions ask you to evaluate a 2×2 determinant, find one variable when the other is given, and solve a pair of simultaneous equations quickly. Three questions use Cramer's rule directly, including working backwards from Dx and x to find D. You will also meet a pair of equations with no solution, equations reducible to linear form (with 1/x and 1/y), the trick of adding two equations to get x + y, and a word problem on the ages of a father and son.
Test format
- 10 multiple-choice questions, 1 mark each (10 marks)
- 15 minutes
- One correct option per question, no negative marking
How to use it
Attempt it once you have finished all practice sets of the chapter and can write the determinant formula without looking. Work each problem in rough first instead of guessing from the options. After submitting, read the explanation for every question, even the ones you got right, because many show a faster method. If you score below 6, go back to the Cramer's rule examples and retry. More solved questions are on the SSC Algebra questions page, and all Class 10 tests are listed on the Maharashtra SSC exam page.
