Challenges faced by Indian Democracy: chapter test

This test covers Chapter 5, the last chapter of SSC Political Science. It asks who takes part in elections and gains political power in a democracy, the main challenge facing all democracies, and why the textbook asks whether China is democratic. The Indian challenges in the questions include how Naxalism began, the criminalisation of politics, the hold of one family over politics, communal conflict and terrorism, and a social challenge named in the textbook. Two questions ask why people may lose faith in democracy and which government scheme the chapter mentions as an effort to strengthen it.

Format

  • 10 MCQs with one correct answer each
  • 1 mark each, 10 marks in all
  • 15 minutes; no negative marking

How to use it

This chapter is more about ideas than dates, so read each question and all four options before choosing. Take the test after reading the chapter and thinking about the reasons behind each challenge. After submitting, read the explanations, which also help with "factors required for the success of democracy" type questions. If you score below 6, re-read the sections on social and political challenges.

See the SSC Political Science page for more practice and the Class 10 SSC exam hub for every other test.
