June 2026 Science and Technology Part 1 board paper

This is the SSC Science Part 1 paper from the Maharashtra Board exam held on 24 June 2026 (English medium, paper code N 405). It is a 2-hour, 40-mark paper, and each new question must be started on a new page. Q.1 has five MCQs and five one-mark items; Q.2 asks for scientific reasons and short answers; Q.3 has 3-mark questions (attempt any five) and Q.4 is a 5-mark question with a choice of two.

The paper covers the functional groups of carbon compounds, centripetal force, electrolysis of water, A.C. frequency and the angle of incidence, groups and valency, Hope’s apparatus and the anomalous behaviour of water, lens power and eye defects, Kepler’s laws, a bulb-energy numerical, factors affecting reaction rate, regelation, the polymer table, space debris, the rules of refraction and the demerits of Mendeleev’s table, with froth flotation as the 5-mark question.

How to use it

Solve the paper in 2 hours without a calculator. Then check each answer against the model answers, especially the numericals and the labelled diagrams. Revise weak chapters with the Science Part 1 full subject test and the Science Part 1 questions page.

  6. Q.3 (vi) Read the following passage and answer the questions given below :

    Space Debris and its management

In addition to the artificial satellite, some other objects are also revolving around the earth. It includes, non-functional satellites, parts of the launcher detached during launching and debris generated due to collision of satellite with other satellite or any other object in the space. According to one estimation mode in 2016, there are about 2 crore pieces of length more than 1 cm, revolving around the earth! All this is nothing but the debris in space.

This debris can be harmful to the artificial satellites. It can collide with these satellites or spacecrafts and damage them. This debris is increasing day by day. Soon, it will be difficult to launch new spacecrafts. It is, therefore, very essential to manage the debris. Some studies and experiments are being done with this in view.

    (a) What is meant by space debris ?
    (b) How it can be harmful to the artificial satellites ?
    (c) What efforts are being taken to manage it ?
