Gravitation chapter test: topics covered
This test is based on Chapter 1, Gravitation, of Science and Technology Part 1 for Class 10. It mixes facts and short numericals. The concept questions ask for the value of the universal gravitational constant G, Kepler's third law, the SI unit of weight, why mass stays the same on the moon, the value of g at the centre of the earth, and the escape velocity from the earth. The numericals use the inverse square law (what happens when the distance is doubled), the change in g at a height equal to the earth's radius, and free fall: the time taken to fall 20 m and the speed after falling 45 m, with g = 10 m/s².
Format
10 multiple-choice questions, 1 mark each, 15 minutes. Each has one correct option and there is no negative marking.
How to use it
Take the test after reading the chapter and solving its numerical problems. For the free-fall questions, write down which equation of motion you are using before calculating. After submitting, read every explanation, especially for the g-variation questions, where the ratio method is quicker than substituting all the values. If you score under 6, revise Newton's law of gravitation and the equations of motion, then try again.
More solved Science questions are on the Science Part 1 subject page. You will find every Class 10 test on the Maharashtra SSC exam hub.
