Heat chapter test: what it covers
This test is for Chapter 5, Heat, in SSC Science and Technology Part 1. It checks the definitions and the calorimetry numericals. On the concept side, you need the SI unit of specific heat capacity, the temperature at which water is densest (the anomalous behaviour of water), what Hope's apparatus shows, regelation, the relative humidity of saturated air, and the dew point. The numericals ask for the heat needed to raise 2 kg of water by 10 °C, the final temperature when equal masses of water at 80 °C and 20 °C are mixed, the latent heat of fusion of ice, and the heat needed to melt 500 g of ice at 0 °C.
Format
10 MCQs with one correct answer each, 1 mark each, 15 minutes. No negative marking.
How to use it
Take the test after reading the chapter and solving the specific heat and latent heat problems. For mixing problems, write "heat lost = heat gained" before you put in the numbers. Read the explanation of each question afterwards; they also show the unit conversions from grams to kilograms. If your score is below 6, revise the principle of heat exchange and the anomalous expansion of water, which often come up as written questions too.
