Chemical Reactions and Equations test
This test covers Chapter 3 of Science and Technology Part 1. Most questions give a reaction and ask you to name its type: CaO with water (combination), iron with copper sulphate (displacement), silver nitrate with sodium chloride (double displacement), and the heating of calcium carbonate (decomposition). You also need to spot the oxidising agent in the reduction of copper oxide by hydrogen, and to balance 3Fe + xH₂O → Fe₃O₄ + 4H₂ by finding x. Other questions cover corrosion, why chip packets are filled with nitrogen to stop rancidity, which process is endothermic, and why powdered marble reacts faster with dilute HCl (rate of reaction and surface area).
Format
10 multiple-choice questions, one correct answer each, worth 1 mark. Total 10 marks, 15 minutes, no negative marking.
How to use it
Take it once you have learnt the types of reactions and the factors that affect the rate of reaction. Write the equation out for each question rather than going by memory; it makes the reaction type easier to see. After submitting, read the explanation for each question. If you score below 6, make a table of reaction types with one example each and try again.
The Science Part 1 subject page has more questions with answers. Visit the SSC exam hub for other chapters.
