Introduction to Microbiology chapter test
This test is about Chapter 7 of SSC Science Part 2 and focuses on how microbes are useful. The food questions ask which microbe turns milk into curd, what Lactobacilli make from lactose, which organism is used to make bread, and what fermentation by yeast produces. The industrial questions cover how vinegar and citric acid are made and which microbes produce methane in biogas. You will also be asked who discovered penicillin, which diseases antibiotics work against, and the name for using bacteria such as Pseudomonas to clean up oil spills (bioremediation).
Format
10 multiple-choice questions, 1 mark each, 15 minutes. Exactly one option is correct, and there is no negative marking.
How to use it
Attempt it after reading the chapter. A simple table of product, microbe and process makes these questions much easier. After submitting, read every explanation, as they connect each microbe to the reaction it carries out. If you score below 6, revise the sections on industrial microbiology and antibiotics and try again.
