Life Processes Part 1: respiration and cell division
This chapter test follows Chapter 2 of SSC Science Part 2, which covers energy and cell division. On cellular respiration, the questions ask which organelle is the powerhouse of the cell, where glycolysis and the Krebs cycle take place, what glucose becomes at the end of glycolysis, how many ATP molecules complete oxidation of one glucose molecule gives, and what anaerobic respiration produces in muscles during hard exercise. On cell division, the test asks where mitosis takes place, in which phase chromosomes line up at the equator, how many cells meiosis produces from one diploid cell, and when crossing over happens.
Format
- 10 MCQs, single correct answer
- 1 mark each; 10 marks total
- 15 minutes; no negative marking
How to use it
Attempt it after you can draw the stages of mitosis and outline the three steps of aerobic respiration. Read each question carefully, because "where" and "how many" questions here have similar-looking options. Use the explanations to check the location and output of each step. If you score below 6, draw a flow chart of glycolysis to Krebs cycle to electron transfer, and revise the phases of mitosis and meiosis.
