Cell Biology and Biotechnology: test topics
This test covers Chapter 8 of SSC Science and Technology Part 2. Its first theme is stem cells: what they are, where embryonic stem cells come from, and which source can be stored at birth (umbilical cord blood). Its second theme is biotechnology: where the gene in Bt cotton comes from, what golden rice is rich in, how human insulin is made using recombinant DNA, and what DNA fingerprinting is used for. Three questions cover India's agricultural revolutions: the Green Revolution, the White Revolution and the Blue Revolution.
Format
- 10 MCQs with a single correct answer
- 1 mark each, 10 marks in total
- 15 minutes, no negative marking
How to use it
Take it after studying the chapter's sections on stem cells, genetic engineering and the revolutions. The revolution questions are easy marks once you link each one to its product. After submitting, go through the explanations, which give the background to each answer. If you get fewer than 6 right, revise the uses of stem cells and the examples of transgenic organisms; these often appear as long-answer questions too.
