Animal Classification chapter test
This test covers Chapter 6 of SSC Science Part 2. Every question asks you to place an animal in the correct group, so it is good practice for "who am I" and classification questions. The animals are sponges, Hydra and jellyfish, tapeworm, Ascaris (roundworm), earthworm, octopus, starfish, Balanoglossus and Amphioxus. One question asks which is the largest phylum in the animal kingdom. Together these cover the main non-chordate phyla (Porifera to Echinodermata) and the boundary with chordates, such as hemichordates and cephalochordates.
Format
- 10 single-correct MCQs
- 1 mark each, total 10 marks
- 15 minutes; no negative marking
How to use it
Take the test once you know at least two key features of each phylum. Before choosing, recall one feature of the animal (body cavity, segmentation, notochord) and then match it to a group; this is more reliable than memorising a list. After submitting, read the explanations, which give the deciding feature for each animal. If you score below 6, revise the classification chart from the textbook and test yourself again.
The Science Part 2 questions page has more classification practice, and the Maharashtra SSC hub has the rest of the tests.
