Historiography: Development in the West, chapter test
This test covers the first chapter of the SSC History book, which traces how history writing developed in Europe. The questions follow the chapter in order: the Greek historian who first used the word "history" for his book, the university that first had a separate department of history, and René Descartes' rule of doubt. They then move to Voltaire's original name, Hegel's dialectic, the historian who stressed the critical method and the value of sources, and Karl Marx's view of history as the history of class struggle. The last questions cover the Annales School, the writers behind feminist historiography, and the historian who questioned chronological arrangement of events.

How to use it
This chapter is full of names, and the options are designed to confuse them, so attempt the test after making your own table of each thinker and the idea linked to them. After submitting, read every explanation and correct your table. If you score below 6, re-read the chapter focusing on the 18th to 20th-century thinkers, since board questions such as "Explain with reasons" often come from them.
More History questions with answers are on the SSC History subject page, and all Class 10 tests are on the Maharashtra SSC exam hub.
