Knowing the paper pattern is one of the easiest ways to gain marks. It tells you how many marks each type of question carries, where the internal choice is, and how to split your time. This article sets out the Maharashtra SSC (Class 10) board paper pattern subject by subject, based on the board's own English-medium question papers from March 2025, checked against March 2026 for the four Maths and Science papers. The structure was the same in both years.

For the 2027 exams, which the board's tentative timetable schedules from 15 February to 11 March 2027, expect the same pattern unless the board announces a change. Always check the board's official website for any notice.

Language papers: English, Marathi and Hindi

Each language paper is an 80-mark, three-hour activity sheet based on the textbook.

  • English (First Language): Language Study (10), Textual Passages (20), Poetry (10), Non-textual Passage (15), Writing Skills (15) and Creative Writing (10). See the English March 2025 paper.
  • Hindi (Second or Third Language): prose (20), poetry (12), supplementary reading (8), grammar (14) and applied writing (26). See the Hindi March 2025 paper.
  • Marathi (First Language): five sections covering prose, poetry, supplementary reading, language study and applied writing. See the Marathi March 2025 paper.

What the pattern means for your preparation

  • Most marks are written. Only a small share of each Maths and Science paper is MCQ. Use chapter and full subject tests to check concepts, but write full answers for practice.
  • Internal choice is generous. In Science Q.3 you answer any five of eight. Decide quickly and do not attempt extra questions.
  • Diagrams, maps and graphs are marked. Practise them with a pencil, ruler and stencil, not only in your head.
  • One-mark sections reward exact facts. Wrong pairs, odd man out and true-or-false questions need precise recall, which is where short chapter tests help.
