SSC 10th Science Chapter-Wise Tests: Part 1 and Part 2
On this page
Science and Technology in the Maharashtra SSC exam is two papers of 40 marks each: Part 1 covers physics and chemistry, and Part 2 covers biology and environment. Together that is 20 chapters, and the board can ask from any of them. The simplest way to find which ones need more work is to test them one at a time. This guide lists the free Doubtly chapter tests for both parts, what to revise before each, and how to turn MCQ practice into written board answers.
How the science chapter tests work
Each chapter test has 10 multiple-choice questions, a 15-minute time limit and no negative marking. After you submit, you see the correct answer and a short explanation for every question. When you finish all the chapters in a part, take the full subject test: 25 questions from every chapter in 40 minutes.
Science and Technology Part 1: chapter-wise tests
| Chapter | Revise before the test |
|---|---|
| 1. Gravitation | Kepler's laws, Newton's universal law of gravitation, g and its variation, free fall, escape velocity |
| 2. Periodic Classification of Elements | Dobereiner, Newlands and Mendeleev, the modern periodic table, periodic trends in valency, atomic size and metallic character |
| 3. Chemical Reactions and Equations | Balancing equations, types of reactions, oxidation and reduction, rate of reaction, corrosion and rancidity |
| 4. Effects of Electric Current | Heating effect, magnetic field due to current, Fleming's rules, electric motor, electromagnetic induction, generator |
| 5. Heat | Latent heat, regelation, anomalous behaviour of water, dew point and humidity, specific heat capacity and the method of mixtures |
| 6. Refraction of Light | Laws of refraction, refractive index, dispersion, total internal reflection |
| 7. Lenses | Ray diagrams for convex and concave lenses, sign convention, lens formula, magnification, power, the human eye and its defects |
| 8. Metallurgy | Physical and chemical properties of metals and non-metals, reactivity series, extraction of metals, corrosion and its prevention |
| 9. Carbon Compounds | Bonding in carbon, homologous series, functional groups, IUPAC names, chemical properties of carbon compounds |
| 10. Space Missions | Artificial satellites and their orbits, launch vehicles, escape velocity, India's space programme |
Then take the Science Part 1 full subject test and write the March 2025 Science Part 1 board paper.
Science and Technology Part 2: chapter-wise tests
| Chapter | Revise before the test |
|---|---|
| 1. Heredity and Evolution | Transcription, translation and translocation, evidences of evolution, Lamarck and Darwin, speciation |
| 2. Life Processes Part 1 | Energy from nutrients, cellular respiration (glycolysis, Krebs cycle), mitosis and meiosis |
| 3. Life Processes Part 2 | Asexual and sexual reproduction in plants and animals, human reproductive system, reproductive health |
| 4. Environmental Management | Ecosystems, environmental conservation, biodiversity and its conservation |
| 5. Towards Green Energy | Electricity generation from thermal, hydro, nuclear, wind and solar sources and their environmental effects |
| 6. Animal Classification | Basis of classification, the major phyla and their characteristics with examples |
| 7. Introduction to Microbiology | Industrial microbiology, products made with microbes, microbes in cleaning the environment |
| 8. Cell Biology and Biotechnology | Stem cells, organ donation, biotechnology in agriculture and medicine |
| 9. Social Health | Social health, addiction and its effects, stress management |
| 10. Disaster Management | Types of disasters, first aid, disaster management plans |
Then take the Science Part 2 full subject test and write the March 2025 Science Part 2 board paper.
How the board tests science, and how to practise for it
In both science papers, Q.1 has 10 one-mark items (5 MCQs and 5 short items such as true or false, odd one out, matching and correlation). Chapter tests are excellent practice for this part. The other 30 marks are written, so add these habits:
Scientific reasons (Q.2 A)
You answer any two of three, 2 marks each. State the scientific principle behind the statement in two or three clear sentences. Repeating the question in other words does not earn the marks.
Short answers and numericals (Q.2 B and Q.3)
Q.3 alone is 15 marks: any five of eight 3-mark questions. For Part 1 numericals, from chapters such as Gravitation, Heat and Lenses, write the given data, the formula, the substitution and the answer with units. Calculators are not allowed in Part 1, so practise arithmetic on paper.
Diagrams (Q.3 and Q.4)
The paper asks for scientifically correct, labelled diagrams. Practise the standard ones: ray diagrams for lenses, the electric motor and generator, the human eye, cell division stages, and the human reproductive system. A neat diagram with correct labels is often worth more than a long paragraph.
Long answer (Q.4)
Choose one of two 5-mark questions. These usually combine a diagram or paragraph with several sub-questions. Read all sub-parts before you choose.
Order of study
There is no single right order, but many students find it easier to alternate a physics chapter, a chemistry chapter and a biology chapter, so that one subject never piles up. A workable rhythm is three chapter tests a week across both parts, taking about seven weeks for all 20 chapters. Then spend a week on the two full subject tests and the two March 2025 papers.
Use your scores
When you are signed in, the syllabus tracker marks weak chapters from your test scores. Revise those from the textbook, solve the textbook exercises (solutions are in the Science Part 1 and Science Part 2 question banks), and retake the chapter test after a few days.
Mistakes to avoid in science
- Writing numerical answers without units.
- Skipping balancing in chemical equations.
- Drawing diagrams without labels or arrows.
- Treating Part 2 as "only reading". Concept maps, food chains and picture-based questions need practice too.
- Leaving Space Missions, Social Health or Disaster Management for the last week because they seem short. They still carry marks.
FAQ
How many science chapter tests are there?
Twenty: ten for Science and Technology Part 1 and ten for Part 2.
Is the science chapter test the same as the board pattern?
No. Chapter tests are MCQs for checking concepts. For the board pattern, use the March 2025 papers linked above.
Which science part is harder?
It depends on the student. Students who find numericals hard usually need more time for Part 1; students who find memorising terms hard usually need more time for Part 2. Your chapter test scores will tell you which applies to you.
Where can I find all SSC tests in one place?
On the SSC 10th exam page.
